Laurie Brussel (Limited Editions) Return to Thumbnails
Laurie lived in Manhattan until she was
8. Her family moved to Long Beach, New York, a small beach
town on Long Island, where she attended public school
through high school. She spent her summers and weekends
exploring the dunes, beaches and boardwalk that surrounded
her. Her evenings were filled with beautiful sunsets on the
water.
Her college experience was very cosmopolitan. She
studied art at the famed New York's Fashion Institute of
Technology (FIT). After graduation, she studied painting
& drawing at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Laurie
began her career focusing on nudes using charcoal, pastel
and watercolor. The New York Times reviewed her
figurative drawings favorably, comparing her style as
reminiscent of the masters. She soon became adept
at pastel and acrylic painting as well.
She has received many awards at regional juried art
shows as well as gracing the covers of various
publications. Her artwork has been exhibited numerous times
at Art Expo New York, the preeminent
international art show, as well as other exhibits in
Atlanta, Pennsylvania and New York. In 1996 she had her
first One-Woman Show at Central Galleries in
Cedarhurst, New York. The following year, she
premiered her two favorite images as limited edition
graphics. Since then, Laurie has had numerous One-Woman
shows. Her artwork is sold and shown across the country.
To date she has 17 published limited edition graphics.
A Master of Natural Realism, Laurie has taught all
forms of art in her private studio and as an instructor in
the Adult Education System in Lawrence NY. She is a
member of various art organizations & has received numerous
awards for her work. She lived with her parents in Long
Beach until she married her husband Bob. They moved into
his childhood home in Woodmere, Long Island where they
lived for over 30 years. In 2002 Laurie and Bob moved to a
new residence in the picturesque and serene Tucson,
Arizona. They have 2 children, Gregg and Carol. Both of
their children are creative. Carol is a working artist as
well. Laurie and Bob enjoy weekending at quaint bed &
breakfasts up and down the eastern seaboard. They have
begun exploring the beauty of Europe together. We welcome
her back home to Long Island and her 8th one person show
here at Central Galleries. |
